The monk of capitalism

Why do people who simp for capitalism and insist success is solely based on “your choices” always throw cultural knowledge under the bus? As if you don’t need to know these things to relate to others and build relationships in business. I see them online all the time. Someone always moaning and groaning about how "successful people don't waste their time doing X cultural thing". It absolutely baffles me every time I see it.

The most recent example I saw was in a meme about how CEOs are always working and "couldn't name a Kardashian or an American Idol winner". It was just such a strange thing to see because first off, yes they all definitely could because the Kardashians have a billion-dollar media and makeup empire and American Idol is one of the most commercially successful shows on the air.

Second off, why would CEOs not pay attention to culture? They are people who need a break every now and again just like the rest of us. It is also their job to stay in tune with what people want in order to profit off of it somehow. That very much includes culturally relevant things. You'd have to be a total idiot to not see that.

A comment on the aforementioned meme said they want to be "monks of capitalism" denying themselves any pleasure in pursuit of the dollar. I agree with it wholeheartedly. The grindset guys neglect all that though and thus will always be grinding instead of learning to relate to the successful people and learn from them.
