Nervous around 30-year-olds

A thread on Bus Stop got me thinking today about how I interact with older people. I'm not talking about the elderly but more like anyone four years older. It's not that I'm incapable of it but more like I just have a slight apprehension towards it. It happens at work where most of my coworkers are married with kids but also around my neighborhood which is full of a lot of early-30s couples.

It feels weird to say but it's almost like there is still that kind of student/teacher power dynamic there? Even though in some cases we would be considered equals. I thought for a while maybe it was because we don't have a ton in common but that's not always true either. Maybe it just takes a while for your mindset to shift out of the student/teacher dynamic once you're finally away from it and in the real world.
